THE ROADRUNNER RAG by Wendell Whitacre, editor 8/3/05

Our Club is heading into the final weeks of a great year. Zippy will soon be completing two outstanding years as Club President and we all express our deep appreciation for her leadership and dedication.

Charter date of the Cresta Loma Golf and Civitan Clubs closed July 29, 2005 and the Charter celebration will be held at the Quail Canyon Golf Club on 303 W. Rudasill Road in Tucson at 7:00 a.m. on August 12, 2005. Carl is the President of the new Club and he, Ana and Dan are the Certified Club Builders.

Theresa is planning to Charter the Desert Christian Junior Civitan Club in September, 2005. She has indicated that the foothills High School is interested in Junior Civitan so another Junior Civitan Club may be in the offering.

Carl, Ana, Dan Spahr and Kathy attended the International Civitan Convention in Greensboro, NC held from the 14th to the 17th of July. Carl was co-Sergeant at-Arms and from all the reports did his usual stellar job. Carl, Ana, Dan and Kathy indicated that our Club was well known throughout Civitan and Carl was querried is a first of a kind venture and I suspect it will be widely copied throughout all of Civitan. Kudos to Carl and his fellow Club Builders!

Serveral of our membrs participated in C.A.R.E. Fair held at Pueblo High School on July 30, 2005. The Senior Club handed out bicycle helmets and Theresa, Courtney and her daughter handed out school supplies. It was a fun project and no doubt a few score of kids will be safer on their bicycles as a result.

The Installation Banquet will be held at the Old Pueblo Grill on North Alvernon, just North of Broadway on the Northeast corner, on Septmeber 24, 2005. The Banquet is always one of the highlight social affairs of the year for our Club and attendance of everyone is urged.

A purely social outing is planned for August 13, 2005, this being dinner at the Outback Restaurant and a movie at Crossroads Theatre.

The District Convention in Las Vegas is scheduled for the weekend of August 19 through the 21st. Several of our members will be attending. Registration fees for the attending members will be covered by our Club.

Another social event is planned for August 27, 2005, including dinner and country western dancing. This has tentatively been scheduled at Hidden Valley Inn but may have to be switched to another venue because Hidden Valley Inn no longer has a band.

Zippy is planning another membership recruitment meeting in mid-September. Please keep on the lookout for possible new members.

Go Roadrunners. This year may be yours!

Thought of the Day:
Life may not be the party we hoped for but while we are here, we might as well dance!
