THE ROADRUNNER RAG by Wendell Whitacre
Roadrunners.
The summer heat is on, as is usual for Tucson this time of year, after a reasonably cool May. This season is vacation time but Club attendance has held up fairly well. A list of speakers for upcoming meetings has been sent out. Don't forget to call your buddy (the person below you on the membership roster) the morning of each meeting--a little reminder never hurts.
The International Civitan Convention Cruise begins June 14. Our Club has seven members going and I understand that The Phil Schlesinger Club is sending fifteen! Our own Heart of the West District Mark Eisinger is running for International President-Elect. Carl Mangelsdorf III is Mark's campaign manger and the word on the street is that Las Vegas' oddsmakers have Mark's chances at almost 100%. Carl cautions that you never know when a dark horse may appear out of the blue!
Carl will be participating in the Annual Breakthrou' Golf Tournament to be held in Nova Scotia on June 17. Each golfer will have raised $1500 for The Civitan International Foundation. The total amount received by The Foundation yearly from the tournament is in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. The Foundation in turn contributes the money to The Civitan International Research Center. Our Club will also have members joining in the "pitch-n-put" contest, the proceeds of which funnel to The Research Center.
There will be a regular Club meeting on June 11 even though some of us will be heading for New York that day. If you are not going on the cruise, please make a special effort to attend the meeting.
The Heart of the West District Convention is scheduled for August 1-3 in Idaho Falls. As usual, the Club will pay your registration fee. The meeting will be a great opportunity to escape the local heat for a few days in addition to all the benefits of the Convention itself.
New Club Officers for the upcoming year include Sandra Mackel, President, Cindy Johnson, President-Elect, Marilisa de Barros, Secretary, Ana Nygren, Treasurer and Board Members Shea -Lynn Tourney, Becki Castillo, Kathy Spude and Shayne Spude. Congratulations and thanks for serving to all!
Thoughts (on the lighter side) for the day:
Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder.
The gene pool could use a little chlorine.
Earth is the insane asylum for the universe.
Cheers,
Wendell
