THE ROADRUNNER RAG by Wendell Whitacre Vol 3 #1

The Roadrunner Club hits the ground running, into another great year. The Mystery Party hosted by Carl Mangelsdorf at the Crest Loma Country Club and ramroded by Shayne Spude was a smashing success. Shayne did a great job with all the nuances of the affair and Carl was his usual gracious host. Our sincere thanks and kudos go out to both.

Serving beer can not only be fun but also a great fundraiser as the recent Desert Thunder Rodeo project proved. The Club’s take from the Coors/ Golden Eagle organization was $3,256.76 and we raised $929.00 in tips. Our deep appreciation goes out to Clint for his stellar job in managing this endeavor.

A very warm welcome to our newest member, Sandra Mackel. Sandra worked both days of the Rodeo and obviously deserves an A+ for new member project participation. Her sponsor is Dan Spahr.

At the recent, 10/25/06, board meeting the directors discussed our club finances. Because of increases in International and District dues and also the increasing cost of our lunches, it was the unanimous decision of the Board to raise the dues for full-time members to $125. /quarter, the dues for Associate members to $40. /quarter and to keep the price of meals at $17/ meal.

The Ventana Canyon roadway clean-up is scheduled for 11/04/06. Again we are hoping to have the participation of many members of the local neighborhood association. This project is a chance to enjoy some of the areas most beautiful scenery while at the same time contributing to the esthetics of our community.

El Tour de Tucson will be held 11/18/06. Again, Roadrunners have the first rest station. This event is always a lot of fun and provides an opportunity for us to participate in one of Tucson’s widely heralded and trademark activity.

Don’t forget our Wine Tasting Holiday Party on 12/2/06, to be held at Ana and Clint’s. Please bring a wrapped gift for a child to the party. More about this later.

We are scheduled to answer the telephones at the 12/7/06 KUAT Telethon. Non word is out yet as to what program will be playing that night. Usually light refreshments are provided. This is another opportunity to contribute to the good and welfare of Tucson.

The Camp Civitan Light Tour in Phoenix is scheduled for 12/9/06. Kathy will be coordinating the logistics regarding time and travel.

The next Board Meeting will be held at Theresa and Wendell’s at 6pm on 11/29/06. All members are encouraged to attend.
