THE ROADRUNNER RAG by Wendell Whitacre

Although your editor was out of town at the time of the Annual Installation Banquet, he understands that it was a gala evening, featuring the Tucson Mass Choir. Not only was the new Administration warmly welcomed but the outgoing officers were praised and thanked for a job well done. One of the high lights of the evening was Zippy’s receiving the Club Honor Key. She certainly did an outstanding job during her two-year tenure. Carl again put the Roadrunner Club in the Civitan International spotlight with his innovative genesis of the Cresta Loma Civitan and Golf Club. Theresa continues to show great leadership with her Junior Civitan endeavors. Dan Spahr is making a substantial contributions to the Club in keeping it energized and on focus. Without question, the last Club year was an outstanding one and every member of the Club is to be congratulated.

The recent Desert Thunder Rodeo Fundraiser was a huge success. Brandon did his usual stellar job in ramrodding the exercise. Although, manning the booths is really work most of the time, I think most participants enjoyed themselves. The patrons were a delight and generous with their tips.

We have had some outstanding speakers at our meetings lately. Lisa Hopper, founder of World Care based here in Tucson, gave an excellent presentation in regard to her efforts in getting the organization started and the global impact that World Care has today.

The first regular Board Meeting of the new Club year was held at the Old Pueblo Grill on 10/26/05 and was well attended. Lee Powell, the new Club Secretary, will be presenting the Minutes at the next regular Club Meeting.

The Road Clean-up Party (otherwise know as the Ventana Hike) is scheduled for 11/01/01. This is always a fun event which combines community service with a little exercise. Participants should meet at the French Loaf Bagel Bakery in the strip mall on the Southeast corner of Kolb & Sunrise at 8am.

The next event is the ‘El Tour de Tucson’ comfort station, an exercise which is scheduled on Kathy Spude’s birthday, 11/19/05. Brandon will have more about this at the upcoming meetings this month.

Ana has in her sights another great year for our organization. Go Ana!

Thought for the Day:
If you can find a path with no obstacles, it probably doesn’t lead anywhere.
