COLLEGE BASKETBALL; Bill Walton's Son Chooses Arizona, Published: September 23, 1997

Luke Walton, son of the former college and professional star Bill Walton, has committed to play basketball for Arizona, the defending National Collegiate Athletic Association champion. That means he will be competing against his father's alma mater, U.C.L.A.

''My dad didn't put any pressure on me to go to U.C.L.A. or anywhere else,'' Walton said. ''He respects Coach Lute Olson very much, so he was very happy when I told him I was going to Arizona.''

Walton, a 6-foot-8-inch, 200-pound senior forward, attends San Diego University High School and is a highly rated recruit. He was also recruited by Utah, Boston College and Southern California. U.C.L.A. recruited him late and was not a serious candidate.
